About The Event

Andrew Pari, LCSW, Diplomate, is the nation’s leading authority on the neuro-biological arousal mechanism in sexualized violence (ARSA). Founder and Director of Sexual Assault Awareness, LLC, he is a psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience treating survivors, including specialized populations in the sex industries and victims of trafficking.

In “Kink-claiming the Trauma: From Sexual Assault to Sexual Empowerment,” Andrew Pari presents his groundbreaking and controversial application of the trauma recovery model that utilizes BDSM as a potential facilitator in the process of healing. Distinguishing between trauma and kink expression, he offers new understandings of how some trauma survivors master trauma through repetition. Describing how some survivors seek healing through exploitation, he will describe how the integration of trauma recovery phases within BDSM scenes can have powerful collaborative therapeutic applications.

Registration for Licensed Professionals (with CE units): $67

Registration for Non-Licensed Professionals, Interns, Students: $34

The webinar will offer a total of 4 units of continuing education for psychologists and other mental health providers that can use American Psychological Association (APA) or AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) CE credit.  Two sessions in the series, each session is complete and worth 2 units of CE credit each.

Andrew’s path is a winding one, reflective of his passion and focus on “the human gaps.”  His naturally quick mind and desire to live in the moment led him on a path through stand-up comedy, two degrees in psychotherapy, director of emergency psychiatric response for L.A. County, inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy and all the while, providing dedicated care to women suffering from abuse and sexual assault.

His agency motto, “Ending Shame.  Ending Stigma.  Ending Sexualized Violence.” refers to Andrew’s dedication to challenging the “taboo” and unexplored aspects of sexualized trauma.

A Q&A on the undiscussed topic of sexual arousal in sexual assault on a social media site catapulted him to the national stage when he was invited to present his unique work at a survivors’ conference.  This led to his presenting his psychotherapeutic and forensic concepts at some of the most prestigious conferences in the country and abroad.

Andrew consults and trains forensics and mental health professionals internationally, is one of the NASW’s “1000 Experts,” and served on a national task force creating policy for sex work and commercialized sex trade.  Most recently, his research has led to the development of a proposed treatment model linking long-standing concepts in trauma recovery with women’s kink exploration.

His personal interests include acting, directing and performing improvisational comedy.  He is the recipient of a 2015 Los Angeles regional theatre award for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and is a devoted Hamilton fan.  (Ask him to shoot off a round of “My Shot!”)
